Every writer here is on a journey. Celebrate effort as much as achievement. A kind word costs nothing and can change someone's writing life. We lift each other up — especially when the words aren't coming.
Give Honest, Constructive Feedback
Good critique is a gift. Be truthful about what isn't working, but frame it with care and purpose. Our Praise / Question / Polish structure exists to make feedback both honest and kind. Attack the writing, never the writer.
Respect Privacy & Intellectual Property
Work shared here is shared in trust. Do not reproduce, screenshot, or share another member's writing outside the community without explicit permission. What's written in The Write Place stays in The Write Place.
Honour Diverse Voices
Writers come from every background, culture, genre, and perspective. Stories that differ from your own are not lesser — they're essential. Engage with curiosity, not judgment. This community is richer because of its diversity.
Communicate with Kindness
Tone can be hard to read in text. Assume good intent. If something feels off, ask for clarification before reacting. Disagreements are fine — hostility, sarcasm, and personal attacks are not. Treat every message as if your favourite author is reading it.
Protect the Space
If you see something that violates these standards — harassment, spam, plagiarism, or harmful content — report it. You are part of what keeps this community safe. Silence is not neutrality; speaking up protects everyone.

How to Critique Well
Our structured Praise / Question / Polish system is built on the belief that good feedback is both honest and humane. Here's what each section is for — and how to use it well.
Praise
Name something specific that worked. Not "good job" — something precise that the writer can understand and build on. This is the most powerful part of a critique.
"The line 'three times, no more, no less' tells us everything about the mother without a single adjective. That kind of restraint is rare."
Question
Ask something you genuinely want to know. Questions invite the writer to think — they're not passive-aggressive criticism in disguise. If it's actually a critique, put it in Polish.
"Is the narrator inside or outside this memory? I found myself unsure, and I wondered if that ambiguity was intentional."
Polish
Offer one specific, actionable suggestion. Not a rewrite — a direction. Focus on craft, not preference. "I wouldn't do it this way" is not polish. "This moment might land harder as its own paragraph" is.
"The final sentence is doing a lot of work. Consider giving it its own paragraph so the reader feels the full weight of it."
How We Handle Violations
We take every report seriously. Our approach is graduated — we believe in second chances, but we also believe in protecting the community.

First: Friendly reminder
A private message from the admin team explaining the concern. Most issues are resolved here.

Second: Formal warning
A documented warning on the account. The member is asked to acknowledge the standards.

Third: Temporary suspension
Access to community features is paused for 7–30 days depending on severity.

Final: Permanent removal
Reserved for serious or repeated violations. The account is permanently closed.
Note on serious violations: Harassment, hate speech, threats, and sharing of harmful content may result in immediate removal without prior warning, at the discretion of the admin team.
